Sometimes when we start a project or a task or even just a sentence there is a start and there is a finish. Some people may be able to start a project, but can't finish it, and some people just don't start any project for several different reasons. Sound familiar?

I come in the category of a person who is not a finisher when it comes to writing. I may have a thought processed through or a story idea that I want to jot down on a piece of paper, but somehow I can't seem to reach the end. The task that was supposed to be enjoyable at this point becomes a tedious and stressful task. It starts to feel like all the energy in my body is not enough to complete what I had started. There may be a lot of factors involved in why I can’t seem to finish the task, it may be a lack of motivation, lack of focus, or plain boredom, there is always a solution, but every solution is unique to each individual, some of the points may help you or some may not.
When I have an idea to write about:
I, normally get a red sketch pen and write it boldly on a piece of paper on my work desk.
It is important to have a designated area where you solely work on your writing. It could be just a simple table with a chair, it doesn't have to have fancy stationery or a bunch of notebooks as is shown on Instagram or Pinterest
Make sure that your workstation is neat and has everything that helps you stay motivated, I like to keep inspirational quotes, ideas, and my sketchbook, right in front of me.
Keep your phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode. It is important that you are focused and there are no distractions. It’s better to keep it in DND mode than silent as you will be able to be reached if someone has an emergency.
Take 5 to 20-minute breaks. This has helped me a lot as I tend to have a short attention span. I need to take breaks to gather my thoughts
Lastly, keep a deadline, you don't have to be on a marathon of writing, you can always take a day off to gather your thoughts, but remember always set a deadline and hold yourself accountable.
Happy writing!
